Ungraspable is the will of my LordWho chose as a successor a human being of clay shapedWhat is the primary reason* why Allah placed the khilafah* (succession) in a creature of clay?Sayyidina Adam was made of clay in which the four key elements are present in equal proportions: Water, sand, fire, air. This allowed him to deal with the different types of people who would later inhabit the Earth during his time.It was Adam’s responsibility to populate the Earth and for this reason, he had in him all the names of Allah, those that we know and those that we do not know, including the opposing names (i.e. giver and taker), and he knew the secret of all of them. It is for this reason that Adam was also the first Kiblah*, toward which the first act of prostration (Al Baqarah) took place.Adam also had to populate the Earth with human beings made of one, or a mixture of the four elements mentioned above. He had to be able to interact with all this humanity and that is one of the reasons why the four elements were present in him.So, Adam is a Khalifah (successor) and as such all the names of Allah are within him.. Therefore, “incomprehensible is the will of my lord who has chosen as a successor a human being of shaped clay”, is an attestation of the greatness of the Khalifah in question, his role and his power. It is the same with our sheikh; our hearts must be linked to his at all times and he must always be present in our minds.*Primary reason: The original, deepest meaning of each verse. This meaning is never openly revealed. Mawlana Sidi Fakhreddin said that in order to understand the original meaning, we have to form study groups and study the qasaids. This was further reiterated by Mawlana Sheikh Muhammad in his 2017 speech.*Khilafah: When Adam was sent down to Earth, he was the first. So, whose successor could he possibly have been since there was nobody before him? The answer is that he was Sayyidina Muhammad’s (PBUH) Khalifah, and so were all other prophets who carried the light of the Prophecy until he (PBUH) arrived.* The linguistic definition of "Kiblah" in Arabic is: "A direction towards which a group of people turn their gaze in unison, or physically go to, in order to perform the same task in a collective way. Not to be confused with "Al Kiblah" which is located in Mecca. In the broader sense of the term, the sheikh is for us "a kiblah" because our hearts must be at all times turned towards him.
