Our obligations towards the Prophet (PBUH)Part oneBy: Dr. Ibrahim Al-DessouqiTranslation: Khaled Farid-MontrealThis lecture deals with the rights of the Prophet SAWS, and with our obligations towards him.Indeed, this is the subject of the hour. The Prophet PBUH became the target of all sorts of vicious attacks in the western media. He has been called such vive names as: “pedophile” and “terrorist”. However, whenever such a case occurs, the nation, from Morocco to Pakistan cries, burns and riot. In the name of the Prophet's defense people die, accidentally in the rioting or intentionally as was the case of the Charlie hebdo satirical magazine. The perpetrators believe that by rising in this violent manner, they have defended the honor of the Prophet (PBUH) and fulfilled their obligation towards him. But once the crisis is over, they would return to their daily routine as if nothing had happened. To the sufi masters on the other hand, the rights of the Prophet are something that must be observed at all times, in every place, in all circumstances. But these moments of sporadic awakening are not enough to fulfill our obligations toward him. The Prophet PBUH must be more than a name and a title that we repeat with our tongues. We need to know his true worth.Imam al-Qadi Ayyad , author of the book entitled: "Healing through the Knowledge of the Rights of the Prophet (SAWS) says: "In truth, healing and well-being will come to us only once we have fully understood the rights of the Prophet SAWS and have fulfilled them." It is for this reason that Sayyidina Aly Zein el Abdein has taught us these words : "Allahumma salli ala saayidina Muhammad Teb al Qulubi wa dawa'iha", which means: "Allah’s prayers be on the Prophet Mohammed, medicine and remedy for the hearts , strength and health of for bodies, light of our eyes, as well as on his family and companions. ".So it is not enough to remember the Prophet SAWS only in situations of crisis, to simply forget soon thereafter. Forgetting the Prophet is akin to forgetting ourselves. Why do we say that forgetting the Prophet (PBUH) is akin to forgetting oureselves? Because the Qur'an says it clearly: "Know that the Prophet is within you,” not “among you” but “within you.” Therefore, to forget him is to be one of whim the Kuran describes as having forgotten Allah so he made them forget themselves.Forgetting the Prophet SAWS and his rights is the most serious form of unconsciousness. To be continued…
