Introduction to the Book
The book is one of two major books sidi Fakhreddin has authored during his honorable life. A translation of the book title can be as below:
Clearance of Pact in Advising of the Nation; and the Reminding of the Wise to the Travel towards the Right
The book in its first edition in Arabic came into 342 pages and contains four chapters, as follows:
1- The Advantage of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) and the Precedence of His Light; and that all the religions are driven from Him … etc.
2- The Story of Israa and Meraaj (Journey of the Prophet to Heavens) and Proof of that the Prophet has seen Allah (Ta’ala) …. Etc.
3- The characteristics of the Prophet as told in the books of sidi Elsheikh Jalaleddin Elsiouti and sidi Elsheikh Moheyeddin ibn Arabi … etc.
4- Different sections including: The Religion Levels, Travel to Allah and travel in Allah, The Invisible Levels … etc.
We therefore here are considering one section of the fourth chapter, as we think it is a very essential one to know about, The Religion Levels:
The Religion Levels
In the Name of Allah the Almighty the Merciful
Bismillahi er-rahmani-er-rahim
Allah Prayers and Peace be upon Sayidina Mohamed and His Family
Know, Allah gives me and you proper course and rectitude; and Allah extend the knowledge me and you, that the Religion Levels are Three; and those are the Islam (Submitting), Iman (Faith) and Ihsan (Perfection), in the general terminology, as it came in the Hadith’s of The Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.).
And; in the Quranic terminology they are the Levels of Sure Knowledge (Ilmu-l-yageen), Sure Vision (Aynu-l-yageen) and Sure Truth (Haggul-yageen) (respectively). And these are the Three Knowledge’s that the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) mentioned that the Lord (Mawla) (Tabarak-wa-High-Exalted) has taught him (P.P.B.U.H.) at his ascending (Uruj).
That, it has been narrated from him that he (P.P.B.U.H.) said, around the meaning, while he was telling the story of Miraaj: (My God has taught me a Knowledge which he ordered me to advise and that is Islam; and a Knowledge which he let for me the choice about it and this Iman; and a Knowledge that he ordered me to keep secret and this is Ihsan).
That said, is supported by honourable Hadith narrated from Sayidina Omer ibn Elkhattab (A.B.P.W.H.): (We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, one day when a man appeared with very white clothes and very black hair. There were no signs of travel on him and we did not recognize him. He sat down in front of the Prophet and rested his knees by his knees and placed his hands on his thighs.
The man said, “O Muhammad, tell me about Islam.”
The Prophet said: Islam is to witness that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to give the alms, the fast the month of Ramadan, and to perform pilgrimage to the House if he is capable of travel.
The man said, “You have spoken truthfully.” We were surprised that he asked him and then said he was truthful. He said, “Tell me about faith.”
The Prophet said: Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and to believe in providence both its good and its bad.
The man said, “You have spoken truthfully.
So tell me about excellence.”
The Prophet said: Excellence is to worship Allah as if you see Him, for you do not see Him but He certainly sees you ) and so on the man asks and the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) answers … and up to here, this part of the Hadith is what we are concerned about with regard to the Religion Levels.
And; after the man left, the Sahaba (Companions) were in astonishment, that he asks the Prophet and believes him and they don’t know about him; and for their high discipline in the presence of the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.), they don’t ask him about anything, unless he affects a talk to them about.
They kept silent until the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) asked them, saying: (Do you know who the man was?), they said: Allah and His Messenger have more knowledge.
The, sayidina Omer ibn Elkhattab (A.B.P.W.H.): (He is not a native of this country and no signs of being stranger or tiredness due to travelling appear upon him).
Then, the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (This is Gabriel, he came to teach you your religion affairs). From this, it becomes very clear to us that Religion is the summation of these three levels.
So, one who performs in the level of Islam (only), without the other two level of Iman and Ihsan, he/she is performing one third of the religion.
As well, one who performs only the two levels of Islam and Iman, without ascending to the up scaling of the level of Ihsan, he/she is performing two thirds of the religion.
And; it is referred to these three levels by the equivalents: the Shari’a (Outer), the Tariqa (Way), and the Hagiga (Truth) (respectively).
The Quran, assists what we have went for, that these three levels are all the religion.
That, Allah (tabraka wa High-Exalted), said in the Surat of AlHujraat: (The wandering Arabs say: We believe.
Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Ye believe not, but rather say "We submit," for the faith hath not yet entered into your hearts.
Yet, if ye obey Allah and His messenger, He will not withhold from you aught of (the reward of) your deeds.
Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (14) The (true) believers are those only who believe in Allah and His messenger and afterward doubt not, but strive with their wealth and their lives for the cause of Allah. Such are the sincere. (15) Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Would ye teach Allah your religion, when Allah knoweth all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allah is Aware of all things? (16). And, Allah (His Dignity and Highness), asl said in another Quran verse, describing those who believed and did good deeds: (So be mindful for your duty (to Allah), and do good works; and again; be mindful your duty, and believe; and once again: be mindful your duty, and do right, Allah loveth the good) (Al Maeda 93). Accordingly, the work with the Religion must be measured by the balance of these three levels.
As well, any holy Quranic verse, holy Hadith or Sayings of the Chief Sahba (Companions of the prophet), the Greatest Allies (Awliya), must be measured by the balance of these levels.
Also, the Quran and Holy Hadith have: Outer (Meaning), Inner (Meaning) and Escalator (Meaning) and Limit (meaning).
And no one can dive into the Inner knowledge’s, but the Sufi’s (Allah Be Pleased of Them, All), that the religion in their faith is practicing and not (just) hanging on to.
Accordingly, they are the skillful in its knowledge’s; and one who wants to clear Pact from, should ask them in the religion matters and its levels, following His words (High-Exalted): (Ask the followers of the Remembrance if ye know not!) (Al Nahl 43). And the word Remembrance (Zikr) can be used for both the Life (Dunya) and Religion knowledge’s. That any job owner is skillful in his/her job, whether it is great or humble. As an example, the most skillful engineer can not know how many loafs of bread a sack of flour can produce.
And; the books of our Sufi masters are charged with explain what we are driving at; and the biographies of the good ancestor’s and the Sahaba (Companions) and their chiefs, all, are full with that (knowledge). And; it was narrated from syidina Ali ibn Abi Talib (God honored his face and Be Pleased of Him), that he often used to say: (Ask me before you miss me about a knowledge that is not known to neither Gabriel nor Mikael.
((I swear) in the name of Allah that I am acquainted by the ways in the skies more than one of you is acquainted in the ways of the ground); and he points to his chest and says: (Here are accumulated knowledge’s, if there is found a container for it.). And; the speech, known as (The speech of Kufa) and his explanation of Opening (al Fatiha) of the book (Quran) are best proof of what we meant to say; and wonder as he is the Door of the City of Knowledge, as narrated by the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.): (I am the City of Knowledge and Ali is its Door).
And; all the Muslims share the first level i.e. (Islam) level, though they differ in that level in the way of performance and the sin and the repentance and expiation (Istighfaar), devoutness, straightness and additional -deed (nafl).
All these things differ according to the levels, as we have mentioned, and to each there are the Quranic verses and Holy Hadith associated with it, which if were taken to other than it, then the meaning will shake and the desired will be reversed. And; for evidencing that, (we refer to what) the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) had come down verses (of Quran) of Surat Hud (the Prophet Hud(P.P.B.U.H.) and upon our Prophet; and when the morning came, the Sahba (A.B.P.O.T) had seen head of the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) had been covered with white hair, while they had never seen that on him before that day.
So they asked him about that. The prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (That made my hair white was (Surat) Hud and its sisters.). Then, the Sahaba said: (Do the stories of the prophets make your hair white, Oh the Messenger of Allah?). The Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (No, but His saying (High-Exalted) (in verse): (So tread thou the straight path as thou art commanded, and those who turn (unto Allah) with thee) (Hud: 112).
So, this verse is connected thoroughly with the level of Ihsan in its highest grades i.e. the Ihsan (perfection) of the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.), in the concern of whom, said Allah (High-Exalted): (The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold.) (Al Najm: 17). i.e (Did turned not aside) of the vision and (nor yet was overbold), not exceeded the view. Also, Allah said: (Then he drew nigh and came down (Al Najm: 8) Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, (Al Najm: 9). And; in this verse i.e.
(So tread thou the straight path as thou art commanded, and those who turn (unto Allah) with thee), He (P.P.B.U.H.) was ordered to keep the continuance of Seeing (Mushahda) and also the same for those who inherit this level after Him (P.P.B.U.H.), who are clear in the rest of the verse (and those who turn (unto Allah) with thee). And those are the Mohammedian Inheritors (Worathaa Mohammediyoon) and one of them is called Mohamedian Inheritor (Warith Muhammedi) or the Khalifa (Successor) or the Succorer (Ghawth).
And; so as to gain the complete advantage, we will talk here elaborately about each level of the three religion levels and the deeds involved in each; and that our Sufi Masters divide the work in that to: Serving (Ibada), servitude (Oboodiyya) and ultimate-servitude (Obooda).
And they see that Serving (Ibada) is something that is established by the servant to satisfy his lord so as to enter him/her the Paradise and remove him/her from the Fire; and that is the level of Islam. And; they see that servitude (Oboodiyya) is the deed of the servant to satisfy his/her owner without waiting for reward in return to that deed; and that is the level of Iman.
And; they see that ultimate-servitude (Obooda) is the deed of the servant to satisfy his/her owner for Him (the owner) deserves that and the servant sees that he/her is short in meeting his/her owner right; and this is the level of Ihsan.
Explaining more, if we suppose that a servant has fled from his owner to far land, would his/her act of fleeing free him/her from slavery? No and a thousand no, but he/she would be called a fugitive servant. And; if he/she returns to his/her owner he/she becomes a good servant. i.e.
Good for serving his/her owner exactly like the one in the level of Islam when he/she returns to his God from his/her error. And; his deed to satisfy his/her owner is called Servicing (Ibada), because he/she has asked for reward for his deed, because he/she acted without loyalty, as he/she means to be freed from Fire and entered into Paradise.
And; if he/she do the deed for the satisfaction of his/her owner without waiting for reward for his deed, but for Him (the owner) deserves it without reward, this is then called servitude (Oboodiyya) for the existence of loyalty in that deed, same as the servant worshipping in the Iman level where the servant worships Allah in clear Religion to Him without fearing His Fire or craving for His Paradise, because he is eligible for serving. And; if the servant keeps in obeying his/her owner and does not ask Him for reward, but serves Him and sees that he/she is short in obeying Him; and that Allah (High-Exalted) has favoured him/her by standing before his hands as the case of the servant in the level of Ihsan, his/her deed in this case is called ultimate-servitude (Obooda). And; about this (last) level, says sidi Elsheikh Ibrahim Elgorashi Eldsougi (A.B.P.W.H.): (Beware, my brother that you do not claim that you have a special treatment or situation with Allah.
And; know that, if you have fasted, then it is Him who has caused you to fast; and if you has kept vigil the night long, then it is Him who has caused you to do so; and if you do, it is Him who took you to do so; and if you have seen, it is Him who has shown you; and if you have drunk the syrup of the People (Sufi’s), it is Him who has quenched you; and if you Observe your duty to Allah, it is Him who caused you to observe; and if you have raised, it is Him who has raised your level, and if you have been given, it is Him who gave you; and you have nothing in the mid of that, but to confess that you are a disobedient and has not even a single good deed. And that is right.
As, from where do you got a good deed, whereas it is Him who has done you good and that it is Him who is controlling you and if He wants He will accept you and if He wants He will reject you.
The Level of Islam (Submitting)
The Islam, which this is its valid name, and it is the knowledge that (sayidina Mohamed) (P.P.B.U.H.) has been ordered to advice; as mentioned in the Hadith of (Isra and Miraaj). And; it is the Sure knowledge (Ilmu-l Yageen) as per the Quranic terminology. And; stopping at this level is not salvaging for who wants to free himself/herself of responsibility.
And; it is said (in Sufi poem):-
It is that the Sure Knowledge has brought closer some people;
Those are the ones fascinated by Money and Honour;
They thought it is the Sure Vision like a blind;
The mind thought a vision so it got conceited;
Could be, their knowledge draws to them;
The temptation to disbelieve, so be cautious of its beginning;
The knowledge of the devil was a Sure Knowledge;
From him the eye of the Sure Vision has hid its light;
If he (the devil) has seen the Truth, could not deny Prostration;
The knowledge has prevented his eye from getting the meaning;
And; what can your knowledge suffice you in place of your eye;
That who has by pride due to knowledge has strayed;
Above where you are at, there is a level of revelation;
Other than the revelation of the apparition showing its light;
And then, over that, is a level of Truth;
And that is the provision of each soul its guidance
And; generally, the Islam (level) is the knowledge of the Shari’aa, which is known as the knowledge of rules and it’s the level of Serving (Ibada). And all is about deeds bodily conducted. That is, the work in this level is by organ. So, saying the Shihadat (Witnessing Allah is the only God and Mohamed is his messenger) is by the tongue. And performing Prayer is by body; and giving alms (zakat), fasting and performing pilgrimage are also the same. Also, the sins in this (level) and conducting disobedience deeds such as theft, drinking alcohol, adultery, killing human and others. And repentance in this level is: Ceasing immediately, regret of what has passed and acting in firm will never to return to the sin. And; devoutness (in this level) is executing commands and avoidance of the forbidden at the same time. And; Straightness (Istigama) is to stay and continue on that.
And; for the person is necessitous to carry out his life needs, then the Lord (Blessed Glorified be Him) (tabaraka wa High-Exalted) has asked him/her to beseech Him to accomplish those needs (for him/her). And; it has been detailed earlier about the validity of beseeching (tawassul) Allah and that Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) ordered us to do and it is Him who started doing it. That can be read in our previous book (Intisar Awliyaa er-rahman ala Awliyaa Elshaytan). That the beseeching to Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) for the one in this level: i.e. Islam level, is by body deeds, such as saying Allahumma (Oh Allah) if You furnish my need or cure me or my son, I will do so many prostrations of prayer (raka’a) or I will feed so many poor people or I will fast so many days and so on of body deeds.
And a good proof that beseeching to Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) by body deeds, establishes the needs, is story of the three persons who were logging (cutting down trees) and the cave closed on them, which is told in the Hadith books. In meaning, it tells that three men were out logging, when they were overtaken by a storm and therefore they took shelter in a cave. A rock slipped down from the mountain and blocked the exit from cave. And they couldn’t come out. They agreed to beseech to Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) each by a good deed he had done. Thereupon one of them supplicated, "O Lord, I had very old parents, and I used to serve them in obedience to you and I used to milk the animals and offer them their drink of the milk first, to their fullness.
And after that I used to mix the milk with water and give to my family. Oh Allah, you know better than me. And; if I did this thing seeking only your pleasure, then do release us from this rock." Thereupon, the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out. Then the second man supplicated: "O Lord, I had a companion who shared with me paying money to buy sheep to grass them and invest them. And he travelled due to the sickness of his father and disappeared a long time. Then, I bought the sheep and grassed them and invested them.
Then my companion returned to take back the money that he had paid. I told him that you are a partner with me, as you had been. And I divided the sheep equally with him. And he said, Oh Allah you know better than me. And; if I did this thing for the sake of Your benign face, then do release us from this rock." Thereupon, the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out.
Then the third supplicated: "O Lord, I had a cousin that has been torn out by hunger and poverty humiliated her. And she was a widow and had children who were suffering from hunger. And she used to drop stones in the pot and pours water on it and put the pot on the fire.
Doing that to impress them that there was food, till they fell asleep. She asked me money and I said to her if you give way to me to conduct intercourse, I will give you, otherwise I will not. She turned away from me for her chastity. And she returned second and third time pushed by the hunger of her children and beggary. And, I tended to tease her and ask her for intercourse, till she accepted due to being forced by hunger.
Then, I positioned myself against her, as a man do with a woman. Then, I felt bashfulness of Allah and I regretted my behavior. And I let free the woman and I divided with her my money. Oh Allah you know better than me. And; if I did this thing for the sake of Your benign face, then do release us from this rock." Thereupon, the rock moved and the door of the cave opened. And they went out delightfully.
And; it is known that those people were from the Jews and they supplicated to Allah by their good deeds in the level of Islam, where those deeds were body deeds.
And the one in this level is ordered to conduct Remembrance (Zikr, as the Remembrance and orders given to do it, were mentioned in more than twenty verses of the noble book of Allah (the Quran). So, this one has got to do Remembrance by body: i.e. by the tongue. And this is called the inattentiveness remembrance. So, he says: (“La Ilaha illa Allah” by his/her tongue; and the Istighfar is body deed: by the tongue. Also, to ask Allah to pray for the Prophet (salat ala alnabi) (P.P.B.U.H.) and the reciting of the Quran and so on). And; you has to know that the servant (Abd) is different from servicing person (Mutabid). The Servant is the possessor of the Sharia’a (Islam) and the Servicing person is a followers of the Servant and imitate Him.
The Level of Iman (Faith)
The valid name is (Iman), meaning (Faith). And it is the knowledge that the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) has been opted to advice or keep secret, in the Journey to Heavens (Isra and Miraaj); and it is the Sure Vision in the Quranic terminology. And; in the general terminology it is called Tariqa (Path) and it is situation of Servitude (Oboodiyya). And; the deed in it is a heart deed and the Remembrance (Zikr) is a heart Remembrance. And the devoutness in it is the considering magnificent the rituals of Allah (And whoso magnifieth the offerings consecrated to Allah, it surely is from devotion of the hearts) (Al-Hajj-32).
And also the devoutness is the traveler’s food; and the traveler is the Tariqa follower for he/she is travelling to Allah (High-Exalted); as Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) said: (And make provision for yourselves - but, verily, the best of all provisions is God-consciousness) (Bagara:197). And; the sin in this level is the inattentiveness of remembrance. And; repentance in it is returning to remembrance, where Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) said: (Verily, God loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and He loves those who keep themselves pure) (Bagara:222). It will be advantageous to us here, to quote one of the Prophet Hadith’s connected with this level, clarifying what we have pointed out to the beginning of our speech that every level has the Quranic verses and Hadith’s connected to it.
These Hadith’s are called Hadith’s of Omnipotence (Allah’s power). It was narrated from him (P.P.B.U.H.) that he had said: (If you do not commit a sin and ask (Allah’s) forgiveness, Allah would have brought some people who will commit sins and ask forgiveness and will forgive them.). So, if we get down this Hadith to the Islam level, wherein the sin is the level is committing disadvantages, then there should come into minds that Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) is encouraging us to perform disobediences.
Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) Blameless, He would not order doing the obscenity and the denied. Be Him most higher than that, greater highness. But, this Hadith is connected with the level of Iman (Faith) and is addressed to the one in this level. That is, when he he/she get inattentive from Remembrance, then that is his/her sin.
And that makes him/her bore and feel constricted. Then, he/she asks for forgiveness and returns to Remembrance, repenting. Then, this Hadith comes to be refreshing and entertaining to him/her, in place of what has hanged with his/her soul of forlornness due to inattentiveness.
And; the straightness in this stage is the continuity of remembrance, as Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) said: (Lo! those who say: Our Lord is Allah, and afterward are upright, the angels descend upon them, saying: Fear not nor grieve, but hear good tidings of the paradise which ye are promised. (30) We are your protecting friends in the life of the world and in the Hereafter.
There ye will have (all) that your souls desire, and there ye will have (all) for which ye pray. (31) A gift of welcome from One Forgiving, Merciful. (32) And who is better in speech than him who prayeth unto his Lord and doeth right, and saith: Lo! I am of those who surrender (unto Him). :33) (verses from surat Fussilat). And; what is meant by summoners to Allah in these verses, are our leaders (sheikhs) of the Sufi Path’s.
And they are the experts of the path of the Beneficent (Er-rahman). And; the expert is obligatorily required, as per His (High-Exalted) saying: (The Beneficent! Ask anyone informed concerning Him!) (Al-Furgan:59).
And; beseeching to Allah (High-Exalted) in this level, is by the Most Beautiful Names of Allah, as Allah (High-Exalted) said: (Say (unto mankind): Cry unto Allah, or cry unto the Beneficent, unto whichsoever ye cry (it is the same). His are the most beautiful names. And thou (Muhammad), be not loud-voiced in thy worship nor yet silent therein, but follow a way between. (Al-Isra:110). And; no one knows the manner of beseeching by the Most Beautiful Names of Allah other than the Righteous, the skillful in this Art, for the combining of the Names of Allah (High-Exalted) conflictive ones.
For that it is expressed about His (Blessed Glorified be Him) names as soldiers, as stated by Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him): (For, God’s are all the forces of the heavens and the earth) (Al-Fath:7). And; the additional (nafl) is the continuity of the remembrance (zikr).
Of the wonder of wonders that the people know about additional in the level of Islam, which is added on the Prescription. As an example, payer over the five prayers is additional (nafl), fasting out of the Ramadan month, such as the Day of Arafa (The 9th day of Dhul-Hijja), (Ashura: the 10th of the first month of the Hijri (lunar) year, Muharam) is (nafl) .. etc.. The nafl of the alms (zakat) is the handouts to the poor. As well, any other Haj (Pilgrimage to Mecca), over the first time Haj, is nafl. In other words, the additional (nafl) is the shade of the Obligation. But, the people, May Allah bestows His grace upon them, are inattentive of the nafl of the First of the Five Pillars, the utterance of the Shahadat – La Ilaha illa Allah wa anna Mohammedan Rasoulu-lllah - (I witness Allah is the only God and Mohamed is His Messenger). And that is the highest Pillar and its nafl will be the highest of the nafl’s. So, the nafl of (La Ilaha illa Allah) is the Remembrance (zikr); and was mentioned in the Chapter of Remembrance in our previous book (Intisar Awliya er-Rahman ala Awliya esh-shaytan).
And the nafl of (Mohammedan Rasoulu-lllah) is Prayer upon the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) (Salat ala ennabi). Based on that, then the Remembrance (zikr) and Prayer upon the Prophet (salat ala ennabi) (The Best Prayer and Peace Be upon Him), are the highest of the Nafl’s (Additional deeds), by being the nafl of the First and the Highest of the Pillars. And; as a strong Stimulation, from Him (P.P.B.U.H.) to Pray upon Him (salat alayih), he said: (Whoever prays upon me once will have Allah pray upon him ten times; and whoever prays upon me ten will have Allah pray upon him hundred times; and whoever prays upon me hundred will have Allah pray upon him thousand times; and whoever prays upon me thousand times the Fire will not touch him).
And; He (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Whoever prays upon me thousand times, will not die before he is given the glad tiding of him entering the Paradise.). And; He (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Who forgets praying upon me misses his way to the Paradise). And; He (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Behold, the people who have the best claim to Me are the most parrying upon Me). And; He (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Your prayer upon me is eradicate (of sins). Or, as he had said (P.P.B.U.H.), as eradicate means eradicating (clearing) sins, such as water clears fire. And; sayidina Abu Bakr (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (The prayer upon the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) is more eradicate to sins than water to the black ink on a board.).
It has been narrated from sayidina Abdullahi ibn Abbas (A.B.P.W.H.) that he said, when was asked about the meaning of His (Allah High-Exalted) wording: (so remember Me, and I shall remember you) (Bagara:152):
Atthikru Aazamu babin anta dakhiluhu *** Bil-llahi fajaal lahu-l anfasa hurrasa
Meaning:
The Remembrance is the greatest gate to Allah you enter *** By the help of Allah, let your Breaths be the guards of it
So, our Sufi masters (Allah be pleased of them) used to bring themselves closer to Allah by doing all nafl’s (additional deeds) and they dedicate themselves in doing Remembrance and Praying upon the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.). And; these are the situations of the (previous) prophets and messengers (of Allah), the best Prayer and Peace be upon them and upon our Messenger. And; the remembrance is outstanding in all the old Heavens Books, as proved by His (Blessed Glorified be Him) saying: (He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself * And mentions the name of his Lord and prays * But you prefer the worldly life * While the Hereafter is better and more enduring * Indeed, this is in the former scriptures * The scriptures of Abraham and Moses) (Al Ala: 14-19).
The same were the situation the Companions (sahaba) (Allah Be Pleased of Them Alla and of their successors and their later successors till the Day of Judgment). But, in fact, that should be the situation of all who would like to purify himself/herself, i.e. from the sins and the others. And; whereas, it has been marked necessary in many of the verses of (masterful remembrance) (i.e.: The Quran), the abundance of Remembrance, there the abundance can not occur, unless the Remembrance (zikr) reaches the heart (zikr galb), then the soul (zikr rouh) then extraction ((zikr is’tilam). And so has been the Morals of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.), the prophets and the good ancestors.
Allah (High-Exalted) said: (Verily, in the Messenger of God you have a good example for everyone who looks forward [with hope and awe] to God and the Last Day, and remembers God unceasingly) (Al-Ahzab:21).
That is how the morals of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) is there for whom he/she wants to follow him or make him as an example. And; of the strange things and very strange is that the love of Allah and the love of His messenger, is obligatory.
Similarly, the love of the prophets, the companions, the friends of Allah and the Family of the Prophet (Al Elbeit), the scholars and all the good servants of Allah. And; Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) has ordered us to love Him. And this love can not be sold or bought or borrowed and can not be achieved by situation or trick (Alhal or Alheela) or by money, but can (only) exists in coming closer to Allah by doing all additional deeds (nawafil).
Then, the knowledge of Allah (Glorified and Superior) and as well His love, (Glorified in Greatness), has got the doors to it closed, except the door of coming close to Him by doing the additional deeds (nawafil), all the nawafil. And that is clear from the meaning of the Sacred Hadith: (Whoever shows hostility to a friend of mine, then I have declared war upon him.
My servant does not grow closer to me with anything more beloved to me than the duties I have imposed upon him.); and her he has put the duties (obligatories) in the place of Debt, which is an obligation to settle. Then He completed the Hadith to explain the behavior, by saying: (My servant continues to draw near me with extra works until I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hands with which he strikes, and whoever approaches me a hand-span, I approach him an arm-span and whoever approaches me an arm-span I approach him an outstretched-arms-span; and whoever comes to Me walking, I come to him hastening).
The understanding of the Sacred Glorious Hadith is that Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) has opened the door of coming close to Him by the additional deeds (nawafil), and that is clear. And; He made the highest of the additional deeds (nawafil) in connection with the highest of the Pillars. That is the Monotheism. That is (I witness Allah is the only God - la Ilaha illa Allah - and Mohamed is His Messenger – Mohamedun Rasoulu-llah). And; the additional of (la Ilaha illa Allah) is the Remembrance as we said before. And; the additional of (Mohamedun Rasoulu-llah) is the Prayer upon the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.). And; He (Allah) has put his love in the additional deeds (nawafil) by saying: (My servant continues to draw near me with extra works until I love him), explain His (Blessed Glorified be Him) saying in the Quran: (He loves them and they love Him) (Al Maeda:54).
And; He made the love of the God to the servant by diligence in doing the additional deeds (nawafil), as has been cleared.
For this reason, our Sufi Masters used to devote themselves and they exert great efforts in the Remembrance (zikr) and in Praying upon the Prophet (salat ala Ennabi), the loved and the beloved (P.P.B.U.H.). And from the strangest things is that some of the corrupted in belief deny the Remembrance or do not know of it, for limited reach out to understand the Book of Allah (Quran). Actually, that He who has guided us, has misled them. Despite that, Allah God (Blessed Glorified be Him) asked the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) to do Remembrance (zikr) in four points.
The first of those points is in surat Al Muzzamil, where He (High-Exalted) said: (So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion) (8), where the devotion (tabattul) finally is the abundance such that no match in the same Remembrance exists. For the same, saydina the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) gave to his daughter, sayida Fatima Elzahra (A.B.P.W.H.), the name of Elbatoul (non-matched), because she is non-matched.
The second point is in His (High-Exalted) saying: (Say: Allah. Then leave them to their play of caviling) (Al Anaam:91). And the third point is about the Heart Remembrance (zikr algalb) in His (High-Exalted) saying: (And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe) (Al Araaf:205). And the fourth point is about the Soul Remembrance (zikr errouh) in His (High-Exalted) saying: (below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful) (Al Araaf:205). So, how is that Allah (High-Exalted) asks the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) to do Remembrance and exempts those other than him? This is something that is so strange.
Allah (High-Exalted) said: (And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship)) (Al Suaraa:219). And He (High-Exalted) said: (Say (O Muhammad): If the Beneficent One hath a son, then, I shall be first among the worshippers) (Al Zukhruf:81). For that, he (P.P.B.U.H.) is the beloved of Allah (High-Exalted). And; what a better in speech is the saying of one:
Tawsal bi-l habeebi ila-l habeebi *** li tahza bi-l ijabati min gareebin (Arabic)
Meaning:
Invoke the Lover by the Beloved *** to get the answer from so close
And; (P.P.B.U.H) said: (an ace of the deeds of the hearts is better than the excessive weights of mountains of the body deeds). And; all this can not be reached except by the abundance of Remembrance till it reaches the Heart. And it is not possible to correct the Prayers to their complete aspects or to understand a verse of the Book of Allah (Quran) to its full correct meaning, or the Hadith of the Prophet (P.P.B.U,H), except after cleaning the heart. And] it is not possible to clean the heart, as we have mentioned, except by the abundance of the Remembrance and the Praying upon the Prophet (P.P.B.U,H), where the heart will be coloured by the light of the name (Allah) and gets lighted, as said He (Blessed Glorified be Him): (Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth) (Al Noor:35).
And; then he/she sees by the light of Allah. And the one who sees by the light of Allah, nothing can be hidden from him. And; this level as is made clear, is the level of Sure Vision (Ainu-l Yageen). And; the Sure Vision (Ainu-l Yageen) is the opening to deep perception and the point of the (gifted) intuitive knowledge’s (Ilm ladunni) and the beginning of the coming closer to Allah (High-Exalted). And the one in this level remains only to advance to the Level of Perfection (Ihsan).
The Level of Ihsan (Perfection)
The valid name is Ihsan (Perfection). And it is the knowledge that the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) has been ordered to keep secret. , in the Journey to Heavens (Isra and Miraaj); and it is the Sure Truth in the Quranic terminology. And; the Sufi Masters call it (the Truth Knowledge). And it is the position of Ultimate-Servitude (Obooda). And it is a spiritual level and spiritual worship. And; due its greatness and non-restrictiveness, the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) was ordered to keep secret, because every seer sees as per his/her intuition. And; as the vision is not restricted, then measurement can not be affected, because Allah (Blessed Glorified be Him) does not connect to something and does not disconnect from the thing. And; does not resemble the thing, because the thing could only be known by what resembles it or contradicts to it.
And; there is nothing in the world that resembles Allah (High-Exalted). For that He, also, can not be measured or realized, as is said by his saying (P.P.B.U.H.): (to worship Allah as if you see Him, for you do not see Him but He certainly sees you). That he attributed this position with the resemblance letter (as if) (kaf) in Arabic. That He did not deny the senses from their place, but has extended (medded) them from the characteristics of His Glorious Names. As an example, He put in the sight something from the light of His name (the Seer) (Albaseer) so as to see the kingdom (Mulk), the dominion (Malkut) and the power (Jabrut) all of it. And; has provided the hearing from its Name (the Hearing). Same as He revealed by that unto sayidina Mosa ibn Imran (Moses) (P.B.U.H. and our Messenger). By that he (Moses) used to hear the crawling of the black ant on a rock in the middle of the darkest night away from a walk of seventy leagues (Farsakh) (280 kilometers), as per the Hadith.
That is, Allah provides the qualified servant from His seven self properties, borrowed to the human kind, by which he/she excels others. And; without these high properties, the Good people (Salihoon) would not be good enough to execute the Divine imperatives. And; these high properties are: That He ((High-Exalted) being: Knowledgeable, Powerful, Willing, Alive, Hearing, Seer and Speaker. The means the properties of the servant has been extended by the properties of the Lord, such that the servant becomes a servant entirely pure to Allah.
One of that was what happened by the greater believer (Siddig), sayidina Abu Bakr Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H.), when his daughter sayida Aaisha, the Mother of the Believers (A.B.P.W.H.),, had taken some dates from the dates of her father and liked to eat them. The, she stopped and decided to ask her father’s advice about that. She went to him and said: (I took these dates from your dates and I denied to eat before getting your advice). He told her, it is only for your two brothers and two sisters).
Then, sayida Aaisha was surprised, because she knows she has no other sister than sayida Asmaa (A.B.P.W.T.); and she said: (Do I have another sister, my father?). He told her ((A.B.P.W.H.) that, that was something inside. I see within myself a new creation and I see that a girl.). And; it went as he said (A.B.P.W.H.). As regarding sayidina Omer ibn Elkhattab (A.B.P.W.H.), it happened he was giving a sermon on the dais at Friday (Jumaa) Prayer. And; at that moment sayidina Sariya (A.B.P.W.H.) was a commander of the Muslims army fighting at the Levant (Elsham). And; during the sermon, saydina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.), said: (Oh Sariya, the Mountain). He repeated it three times. The Companions (A.B.P.W.T.), were surprised. And they recorded the timing (of the wordings). When sayidina Sariya (A.B.P.W.H.) came back (from the war), they asked him about what he has seen and heard on that date. He (A.B.P.W.T. all) told them that: I heard the Emir of the Believers (A.B.P.W.H.), saying: (Oh Sariya, the Mountain) three times. Accordingly, we shifted to the mountain.
And; if it were not for that, we could not have conquered the enemy, thanks to Allah. And; if someone suspects or a speaker tells that sayidina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) has been inspired that word, (we ask) what caused sayidina Sariya (A.B.P.W.H.) to hear, that he executed the orders of sayidina Omer? The actual situation was that saydina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) – as we have said - sees by the Light of Allah. Accordingly, he was keeping sight of the kingdom (Mulk), the dominion (Malkut) and the power (Jabrut), inside his home or otherwise. Although, it was true, he told to the Companions (A.B.P.W.T.) (that it was a word that Allah (High-Exalted) had cause to run on his tongue.), that could only be from the opinion of the obligatory keeping secret in this level. In this level, they (Sufi’s) say:
Wa fi-s sirri asrarun digagun lateefatun *** turagu dimana jahratan lao biha buhna
And; in the secret there are more fine miniature secrets *** which is we spoke, will get our bloods spill out
And; was once sayidina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) accompanying the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.), when a man met them. Sayidina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) said to the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.): (Oh the Messenger of Allah, let me hit the neck of this man, I see the signs of adultery between his eyes.). The Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Is it revelation after the Messengers, Oh Omer?). Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (Not at all, Oh the Messenger of Allah. It is perspicacity of a Believer.). Then, the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Avoid the perspicacity of the Believer, as he sees by the light of Allah.). Also (one time), the verse (of the Quran) including the stages of creation has come down unto the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) and he was reciting it. When he reached the saying of Allah (High-Exalted): (and then We create within the embryonic lump bones, and then We clothe the bones with flesh - and then We bring [all] this into being as a new creation) (Al-Mu'minun:14). And; before the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) completes the verse, said sayidina Osman ibn Affan (A.B.P.W.H.): (hallowed, therefore, is God, the best of artisans!). The Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Is it revelation after the Messengers, Oh Osman?). Sayidina Osman (A.B.P.W.H.) answered: (Not at all, Oh the Messenger of Allah. It is perspicacity of a Believer.). Then, the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Avoid the perspicacity of the Believer, as he sees by the light of Allah.). And (also); it was narrated from sayidina Imam Ali (Allah honored his face), that when he marched with the army to open Kufa (in Iraq), and he passed by the land of Karbala, he stopped at it and cried, telling to the army: (This is their place. This is their halting place. This is the place of their battle. This is the place of their killing. This is the place of their captives.). Until he caused the army to cry. And he was signing to the murder of Imam Elhusein and the Holy family of the Prophet (Al Elbeit), (A.B.P.W.T.) in Karbala as if he was seeing with his eyes what happened (later). Similar to that happened to the Greater Companions and the dignified Sheikh’s. And; all of this is an evident to the Replacement of the Servant Properties by the God Properties. After that, comes the ascents of the second part of the Hadith, which is: (to worship Allah as if you see Him, for you do not see Him but He certainly sees you).
The Sufi’s (A.B.P.W.T.) say that this is the utmost closer position out of the additions (nawafil), which is the position of Seeing. In this position all the prophets, the messengers, the leaders of the Companions, the leaders of the friends of Allah, all assemble in this position. That is this position is spiritual and it is what Allah (Glorified in Greatness) has meant by his glorious saying: (The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold) (Al Najm:17). The eye turned not aside i.e. of the seeing; and nor yet was overbold i.e. did not surpass it to other than it. Based on that, then the Messenger (B.P.P.B.U.H.) is the position of (even nearer) (Ao Adna) of being closer to his God (Glorified in Greatness), as Allah (Glorified in Greatness) said: (Then he drew nigh and came down) (Al Najm:8) * (until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer.) (Al Najm:9). Also, the Good Servants of Allah (Ibad Allah Elsaliheen), who has be in company of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.) during the night of (ascending to Heavens), Isra and Miraaj, by their souls, were in the position of (until he was but two bow-lengths away). And to evidence that, it is that the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.), in a common narration, has heard the voice of sayidina Abu Bakr Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H.), saying to him: (Stop! Your God is praying). The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) got surprised and said: (Has Abu Bakr been here ahead of me? And; how would God (Glorified in Greatness)?) What is confirmed is that the addressing was coming from the soul of sayidina Abu Bakr Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H.). It has been said about this:
(Arabic)
Fa’asmaahu bil-unsi sawta habibihi *** tawagaf farabul-arshi subhanahu salla
Fa’azajahu thaka-l khitabu wa gala hal *** usalli ilahi, ma samitu bihi utla
Meaning:
And; He let him hear entertainingly the voice of his beloved *** “move forward, the God of the Throne (Glorified) has prayed
He was disturbed by that addressing and he said is it that *** my God prays. I had not heard such been mentioned
The reason behind that, was to expel loneliness from him by him hearing the voice of his beloved friend, sayidina Abu Bakr Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H.), in that place where no close angel or else can approach. That situation was similar to when sayidina Mosa (B.P.P.B.H. and our Messenger) was entertaining by the Stick (in dialogue with Allah). And; when the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) has entertained with his God in the stage of or even nearer (Ao Adna), from being close, he said: (All prayer is for Allah, and worship and
goodness) (Altahiyatu lillahi azzakiyatu attayibatu lillahi), meaning: giving salutes.
And he paused. The reply came from God (Glorified in Greatness): (Peace be on you, O prophet and the mercy of Allah and his blessings) (assalamu alyka ayuha ennebi wa rahmatul-llahi wa barakatuhu). He (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Peace be on us and on the righteous servants of Allah) (Assalamu alyna wa ala ibadi-llahi elsaliheen). And; he was making a sign to the Masters, who had been mentioned before, who are: The Four rightly-Guided Caliphs, The Four Abdel’a (A.B.P.W.T.), The Four leaders (Imam’s) and The Four Pillars (Agtab) (A.B.P.W.T.). In addition were our Imam’s and masters, Imam Abu Mohamed Elhassan, Imam Abu Abdullahi Elhusein and Imam Mohamed ibn Abdullah (The Mahdi), (A.B.P.W.T.); and as well the greater friends of Allah such as sayidina Ouis Elgarani. At that moment all of these said: (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that that Muhammad is his servant and messenger) (Ash’hdu alla ilaha illa Allah wa ash’hadu anna mohamadan abdohu wa rasouluh). And; the sum of all that is the Tashahhud that is recited in Prayer.
And; the Leaders (A.B.P.W.T.) had proceeded with the Prayer upon the Prophet (salat ala ennebi) (P.P.B.U.H.), for their care about it and their devotion into it, as we have mentioned earlier. And; the Lord (mawla) (Glorified in Greatness) had addressed His Honourable Prophet (B.P.P.B.U.H.) by saying: (Pursue, then, the right course, as thou hast been bidden [by God], together with all who, with thee, have turned unto Him) (Hud:112). And; that is the verse that made his hair white (P.P.B.U.H.), as we have told at beginning of this chapter. Who is meant with (all who, with thee, have turned unto Him), are those who inherit your position after you, till the last Hour dawning. That, they are addressed with that i.e. the continuity of seeing. Where, Lord (Glorified in Greatness) has told him (P.P.B.U.H.) that some people from his nation will come to this level (position). And; He told him to inform them that they are required to preserve the straightness, which is the continuity of seeing. The first of them was sayidina Abu Bake Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H), who says: (If the cover is revealed, I would not gain extra sureness). The meaning of that is that he reached the limit. He (A.B.P.W.H.) was asked: (Had you seen your God?). He said: (The inability to conceive recognition is recognition). Also had been asked the same, sayidina Omer, sayidina Osman and sayidina Ali (A.B.P.W.T.). Sayidina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (I have not seen anything until I see Allah before it). And; sayidina Osman (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (I have not seen anything until I see Allah there at it). And; sayidina Ali (A.H.H.F.) said: (If I be absent He will appear and if He appears He will make me absent). And so on. And; the Sultanate of the adorers, sayidina Omer ibn Alfaridh (A.B.P.W.H.) said (in Qasida) in this occasion:
(Arabic):
Ftra’ayta fi siwaka li aini *** bika garat wa ma rayitu siwaka
Wa kthaka alkhalilu galaba gabli *** tarfahu heen ragaba-l aflaka
(Translation):
You have appeared in other of your non-self to my eye *** It get comforted and I have not seen other than you;
And like that, Alkhalil (Ibrahim) overturn, before me *** His eye, when he observed the stars’ orbits
And; Elsheikh Mohamed Elmagzoub (A.B.P.W.H.) said:
(Arabic):
Hudhurun itha ghibna wa ghaybun hudhoorona *** wa tha Ajabun fl-ya’ajabi-l muta’ajibu
(Translation):
Attending if we disappear and disappearance is our attending *** and this is astonishing, let be astonished that who does
And; those from the friends of Allah who do not get, in this position, “The Honouring Robes” (Khila’a attashreef) given by the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.), their situation becomes very tight and life becomes very tight to them and they would to have died. And; Imam (Abu Bakr) Shibli (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (oh God, You have asked us to bring us close and you have brought us close. Oh God, we have not afforded staying with You or departing from You. Oh God, manage us as we do not perfect managing). And; the sin in this level is inattention of seeing. And, it is seeing oneself. i.e. seeing the self existing in the existence of Allah (His glory, and high exalted). Also, was said in this meaning:
(Arabic):
Wa li indaha thanbun bi-royati ghayriha *** fa hel li ila Layla elmaleehati shafiuo
(Translation):
And; I had a sin to her by seeing other than her *** could there be any intercessor to the beautiful Layla
And; also (to mention) is that the repentance is the returning to the continuity of seeing and keeping onto that way. Also, they said:
(Arabic):
Sala hel sala galbi hawaha wa hel lahu *** siwaha itha-sh-taddat alyhi elmawagiu
(Translation):
Ask (my friends) if my heart has disregard her love and has it *** other than her when his pains get more painful
They also said:
(Arabic):
Wa lau khatrat li fi siwaka iradatun *** ala khatiri sahwan hakamtu bi-rid-dati
(Translation):
And; if crosses my heart a wiling in someone other than you *** to my desire inattentively, I judge that I have committed apostasy
And; they said in the situation between the sin and the repentance, by what covers them from loneliness:
(Arabic):
Itha gultu ma thanbi ladayka ajibtani *** wojooduka thanbun la yugasu bihi thanbu
Wa in gultu ahda elhajru li hulalu-l bila *** tagoolina lola elhajru lem yatibi-l hubbu
(Translation):
If I say: what is my sin to you, you answer me *** your being is a sin that no sin can measured to
And if I say abandonment has presented me the clothes of vanishing *** you say: without abandonment, love will not be enjoyable
And as for the devoutness in this level, it is the knowledge of Allah; and it never do separate from this level. That is for fear does not exist except from that you know his hurting. As was said by him (P.P.B.U.H.): (I am the most knowledgeable of you of Allah and I am the most who fears Him). And; beseeching to Allah in this level is by the persons who are much closer to and much respectful by Allah (high exalted), as they expressed:
(Arabic):
Tawsal bil-habibi ila-lahabibi *** li tahza bil-ijabati min gareebein
(Translation):
Beseech by the lover to the lover *** to gain the answer from close
And; sayidina Abu Bakr Elsiddig (A.B.P.W.H.), said to his daughter, the Mother of the Believers, sayda Aisha (A.B.P.W.H.) after Allah (high exalted) had disavowed her from the slander (created by disbelievers): (Thanks the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.). and; what happened to sayidina Omer ibn Elkhattab (A.B.P.W.H.) when he was at the Levant (Alsham) at its conquering was the best evidence to beseeching in this level. That, he (A.B.P.W.H.) had caught rheumatism illness and he body got tightening (cramp). He then said: (Bring to me Abu Alhassan) (The father of Alhassan). And; sayidina Ali ibn abi Talib (A.H.H.F.) was brought to him. And he said to him: (What affected you, Omer?). sayidina Omer (A.B.P.W.H.) said: (We are in struggling (Jihad), as you know and my body cramped. The, sayidina Ali (A.H.H.F.) addressed him: (Shall you not beseech by the most loved living to you). Then sayidina Omer (a.B.P.W.H.) face cheered and he said: (O Mohammedah;O Mohammedah; O Mohammedah) (meaning my Mohamed). Then it was as if he was freed from a fetter.
And; we have clarified, as we introduced in our book (Intisar Awlya Errahman ala awlya esh-shatan) that Allah (Blesses and high exalted) was the one who initiated the beseeching and ordered doing it. He initiated it by sending the Messengers to people, while if He wanted He would have guided people without a mediator. And; as well Allah (Blesses and high exalted) has made between Him and the Messenger themselves a mediator, who is the caretaker of revelation sayidina Gabriel (P.B.U.H.), while He would have inspired to them and speak to them really.
As well, the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) has been a mediator to the Messengers all of them from (sayidina) Adam (P.B.U.H. and our Messenger), till his appearance in his human state (P.P.B.U.H.) and by him they beseeched. The honorable verse of the Quran, from His (high exalted) saying: (NOW [as for thee, O Muhammad,] We have not sent thee otherwise than to people at large, to be a herald of glad tidings and a warner) (Saba:28), describes that. That is, the word people comprehends mankind sector from Adam till the horn is blown. Also, supports what we have went to, His (high exalted) saying: (And verily we have written in the Scripture, after the Reminder: My righteous slaves will inherit the earth) (Al-Anbiya:105). Also, the honourable verse: (And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before thee: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside the Beneficent?) (Al Zukhruf:45). The question, necessitates that it be from a questioner to a questioned. By thinking, the nearest Messenger had between him and the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) nearly six hundred years. And that was sayidina Eisa (Jesus) (P.B.U.H.).
So, how could it be with regard to those before him? Also supports that, His (high exalted) saying: (O Prophet! Lo! We have sent thee as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner) (Al Ahzab:45) (And as a summoner unto Allah by His permission, and as a lamp that giveth light) (Al Ahzab:46) (And announce unto the believers the good tidings that they will have great bounty from Allah) (Al Ahzab:47). That is, the witness of something, must be present (the time he witnesses).
And his (P.P.BU.H.) good news to the believers, covers all the believers from Adam (B.P.B.U.H. and our Messenger) till blowing in the horn.
To prove the permissibility of beseeching in this level – Ihsan level – and its affirmation and that Allah loves it and receives it and accept it, we mention here the story of the beseeching of sayidina Adam (The Best Prayer and Thorough Greeting upon him and Our Prophet). The story of him beseeching Allah with sayidina Mohamed (P.P.B.U.H.), when he and our mother Eve (Hawwaa) tasted the tree which the Lord (Blessed and Exalted) had prohibited them from. Then they descended to the Earth, where our father Adam (P.B.U.H.) has landed in the Hejaz (Zone that contains the two Holy Mosques, Mecca and Medina).
Our mother Eve had landed in India. Our father Adama stayed forty one days confused. Ten, Allah (Exalted) Inspired him and (accordingly) he beseeched Him, saying: (O God (Allahumma) I ask you and beseech you with your beloved Mohamed (P.P.B.U.H.), you turn nothing, but to forgive me). Then, sayidina Gabriel (P.B.U.H.) descended and said to him: (The Lord – Blessed and Exalted – sends you his greetings and says to you: How do you knew my Beloved Mohamed?). He answered: (O my Lord, when you have breathed in me the spirit, I opened my eyes and looked in the stem of the Throne and I found written onto it: (la ila illa Allah, Mohamed rasoulu-llah) i.e. (No God but Allah and Mohamed is His messenger). And when you ordered me to be taken to the Paradise, I found on its door written: (la ila illa Allah, Mohamed rasoulu-llah). And then I knew that You would not add to Your name, but only the name of the most loved being to You.).
Then Gabriel (P.B.U.H.) said: (Yes, and the Lord (Blessed and Exalted) says to you: (And; If it were not for him, I wouldn’t have created you). For that 9P.P.B.U.H.) was the beseech of sayidina Adam (B.P.P.U.H. and our Prophet) to the words that he received, so Allah (Blessed and Exalted) repented toward him, as He (Glorified and Exalted) said: (Then Adam received from his Lord words (of revelation), and He relented toward him. Lo! He is the relenting, the Merciful) (Bagar:37). That were from came the words (astaghfiru-l llaha-l-azeem hoa-t-tawwabu-r raheem) (Istighfar), which is part of the Asas (base) of the Tariqa Burhaniya Dsouqia Shazuliya and others of the Sufi Masters Tariqa’a (Paths) (A.B.P.W.T.). And; in this they say:
(Arabic):
wa’an Adam’in lamma tawssala bismihis *** afa rabbuhu min ajlihi wa yuammanu
(Translation):
And; about Adam when he beseeched with his name *** His Lord forgave him for his sake and secured
Also:
(Arabic):
Anta-l lathi lamma tawssal Adam’un *** mim thanbihi bika faza wahoa abooka
(Translation):
You are the one when Adam beseeched with his name *** By you he succeeded though he is your father
As well, sayidina Adam himself (B.P.P.B.U.H. and Our Messenger), was a medium for the creation of mankind, including the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) within the descending of humans, as they said:
(Arabic):
Adam’un min ajlihi yalaka min *** waladin gabla abyehi kuwwina
(Translation):
O Adam, for his sake you were great *** son who was created before his father
He (P.P.B.U.H.) is the greatest mediator and greatest way of approach to teach the Beings about the Truth (high exalted). And; he is the biggest veil (Hijab Aazam) standing between the two. And; he is the “self of sea of unity” (Ain bahr-i-l wohda). And if it were not for the mediator, the mediation-object – as been said - will disappear (la zahab ka ma geela-l maosoot). And; all the prophets (P.B.U.T.) beseeched with him (P.P.B.U.H.). Even, he (P.P.B.U.H.) had beseeched with himself and the prophets before him. That was when Fatima bint Asad (A.B.P.W.H.), mother of sayidina Ali ibn abi Talib (A.H.H.F.) died. He was digging out her grave with others. And when they opened her tomb, he get inside and stretched in it a while and spoke well of her and prayed for her. And he said: (O my Lord, I pray to you beseeching with Your Messenger and the prophets before me, to surely forgive my mother Fatima bint Asad). And; he meant by Your Messenger, himself (P.P.B.U.H.). This is a perfect unanimous Hadith. His beseech with prophets before him (P.B.U.H.) is a clear evidence to beseech, appeal and their derivatives. And; that stop talking those with corrupted belief, who deny beseech, appeal and their derivatives and describe with disbelieve those who say so. And; he who describes with disbelieve a believer, he is more entitled to disbelieve. And; are equal in regard to the Beseeched with, the alive or dead (persons), as it is clear from the Hadith. And; not all the alive are better than all the dead, but very frequently, the dead is better than the alive. Far beyond that, the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) had beseeched with all who ask Allah, in the Hadith about the getting out the Friday (Jumaa) prayer, which means: (o Allah I ask you by virtue of the position from you, of those asking you, and by virtue of this proceeding of mine to you. That, I have not gone out to you arrogantly or with adulation or for fame. But, I have gone out seeking your gratification and avoiding your anger; (I ask you) to inevitably forgive me). And, comparing to that, we beseech with any symbol out of the symbols of Allah: (This is [to be borne in mind]. And anyone who honours the symbols set up by God [shall know that] verily, these [symbols derive their value] from the God-consciousness in the [believers’] hearts) (Al-Hajj:32), (And as for the sacrifice of cattle, We have ordained it for you as one of the symbols set up by Allah) (Al-Hajj:36). And; all know the accompanying out of the animals to the Istisga’a prayer (Invoking Allah for rain).
We mention another example from the examples of beseeching in the Ihsan level, in its highest stages. That, when the Lord (Glorified and Exalted) wanted to drown the nation of Noah (B.P.P.B.U.H. and our Prophet); and He sent the cataclysm after the furnace had gush and the water fell from the sky as the outlets of the (water) skins; and the earth gushed forth in springs; sayidina Noah (B.P.P.B.U.H. and our Prophet) loaded on board his nation and from each kind two, as per the order of Allah (Exalted): (And he said: Embark therein! In the name of Allah be its course and its mooring) (Hud:41). As the case is described, then the possibility of the ship sinking was very high. There, sayidina Noah (B.P.P.B.U.H. and our Prophet) beseeched the Lord (Glorified and Exalted). Allah then inspired him to write on the ship pole (AMLAHLMHD) (أملحلمهد). And that was the commixture of the name of Him (Glorified) (ALLAH) and the complete name of the Prophet (MOHAMED) (P.P.B.U.H.). One letter from the first name and one letter from the second name; then the second letter from the first name and the second letter from the second name … and so on. And; Allah (also) ordered him to write on its four sides the following names: (RAMIZ, KHSRANOOR, YOHANZ, ABDELNASIR). And those were the names of the Four Right-guided Caliphs, our Masters: Abu Bakr, Omer, Osman and Ali (A.B.P.W.T.) in the Syriac language.
And; these five names are those pointed to in the Holy Quran with the expression (it ran under Our eyes). And; those were the eyes of the holy Divine effluences. And; if those denier who deny this explanation which has been agreed on unanimously by those with sure knowledge (insight-seers), let them bring to our knowledge of the truth of the (eyes) mentioned in the Holy Quran. As such, the Messenger and those who repented with him, had been the intermediary of those who ask a means of approach to Allah, in the world of souls. And as well, he (P.P.B.U.H.) had been the greatest intermediary after his appearance in his physical human nature. As well, his inheritors after his till the arrival of the resurrection day. And he (P.P.B.U.H.) is interceder with Allah and to assign interceders at the day of exposition. A proof of that is: (And, indeed, in time will thy Sustainer grant thee [what thy heart desires], and thou shalt be well-pleased) (Ad-Duha:5). And; we will allocate a special chapter for the interceding, because the corrupted-belief holders deny it. And as well we will speak about its affirmation from the Holy Book and the Sunnah, advising to the nation and clearance of Pact, by the grace of Allah.
And; as we have previously mentioned, the level of Ihsan is a spiritual level. And worshipping in this level is spiritual as well. And it is Love. And the remembrance is spiritual and it is what is known by our Sufi Masters as Vanishing (Isstilam). As they have said:
(Arabic):
Ithama zakarta-Allah’a bi-zikri nafsihi *** fla hoa mazkoorun wa la anta zakirun
Wa thaka atmmu-z-zikri fi kulli zakirin *** Itha anta lem ta’almhu ma anta khabiru
Fa-kun aina zikri-zzikri in anta zakirun *** bi-wajhin siwa hatha fa-inaka Zhahiru
(Translation):
If you ever remember Allah by the Remembrance itself *** neither He is remembered nor you are remembering
And that is the complete remembrance within any remembering *** If you do not know it, you are non-knowing
So, be the remembrance of the remembrance itself. If you are remembering *** in another way than this you are apparent being
They said also:
Arabic):
Wa gad kuntu gablan gabla an ukshafu-lghata *** akhaluka anni zakrun laka shakirun
Fa lamma adhaa assubhu wan-kashafa-l ghata *** wajdtuka mazkuran wa anni-ya zakiru
(Translation):
And; I had been before, before the cover was revealed *** I imagine that I was remembering and thanking you
And; when the morning lighted and cover was revealed *** I found you are the Remembered and I am remembering
All that appears clearly from the meaning of His (exalted) saying: (so remember Me, and I shall remember you; and be grateful unto Me, and deny Me not) (Al-Baqara:152) and His (Glorified and Exalted) saying: (and remembrance of Allah is indeed the greatest) (Al-'Ankabut:45). And this means that the remembrance from Allah to you is greater than the remembrance from you to Allah. And; our Sufi Masters (A.B.P.W.T), all, see the meaning in His (Exalted) saying: (so remember Me, and I shall remember you; and be grateful unto Me, and deny Me not): (remember Me) a beginning and (and be grateful unto Me) an ending. That, they see the beginning of remembrance is the Tongue Remembrance, known as the inattention remembrance. And then the Heat Remembrance, known as attention remembrance.
After it is the Soul Remembrance. Then the Vanishing Remembrance (Isstilam). Then the Remembrance of the Remembrance, which is the reward of the Remembrance. After it is the Praise and the Praise for the Praise. That is the one in this level praise to Allah (Exalted) in the position of the Praising for the obligation of the Praise for the Praising prerequisites. And that is after he/she finds the Divine Effluxes and Holy Manifestations, then he/she praises our Lord (Glorified and Exalted) for that He gave him with generousity.
And; he/she keeps steady on that a while of time. And; if he/she keep straight on this, then the door of Thankfulness will be opened for him/her, known as the Lower Thankfulness or the Thankfulness of Excess, (If you are grateful [to Me], I shall most certainly give you in excess) (Ibrahim:7). And, nowhere after this, but ascending to the Thankfulness of the Thankfulness. That is changing in quality as to the qualities of Allah (Exalted), which is clear is His (Glorified and Exalted) saying: (Give thanks, O House of David! Few of My bondmen are thankful) (Saba':13). And; this level is endless and that in it is in continuous ascending. And; pertaining to that, you find our Sufi Masters (A.B.P.W.T.) all, those who are the wise who put things is their right positions, when they award the reward of any reciting to the soul of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.), they say: (To the excess of the honour of the Chosen) (ziyadatan fi sharfi-l Mustafa saws). Meaning that, they ask the Lord (Glorified and Exalted) to carry the reward of what they have read and light of what they have recited to his Soul of (P.P.B.U.H.) at any stage of the stages of his continuous ascending. Accordingly, applies the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted): (for, indeed, the life to come will be better for thee than this earlier part) (Ad-Duha:4) (And, indeed, in time will thy Sustainer grant thee [what thy heart desires], and thou shalt be well-pleased) (Ad-Duha:5). I.e. Any level you reach, expressed as the (the life to come) is better for you than the previous one.
And; in this position, is the meaning of Hearing the Devine Speech. Where, in this position, the good servant understands the speech of any speaker. That as Allah (Exalted) said in the story of sayidina Suliman (Solomon) (P.B.U.H. and Our Prophet): (and he would say: “O you people! We have been taught the speech of birds, and have been given [in abundance] of all [good] things) (An-Naml:16). And His (Exalted) saying: (Thereupon [Solomon] smiled joyously at her words) (An-Naml:19). i.e. for the speech of the ant, (till, when they came upon a valley [full] of ants, an ant exclaimed: “O you ants! Get into your dwellings, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you without [even] being aware [of you]) (An-Naml:18). As if he could not understand its speech, he would not have smiled. Also, whoever, reaches the Divine Manifestation (Tajalli Ilahi), he/she would recognize the unseen about anything. And, we will speak about the levels of the unseen, enlightening the people and waiving of any confusion.
And; in the inner of this level (Ihsan), i.e. after seeing, the remembrance is omitted. That is for the one in this level is in seeing status and the remembrance is concerning the unseen. And; in this meaning they say:
(Arabic):
Bi zikri-l llahi tazdadu-zunoobu *** wa tantamisu-l basaeru wa-l goloobu
Fatarku-z zikri afdhalu kullu shayin *** wa shamsu-th thati laysa laha ghoroubo
(Translation):
By the remembrance of Allah sins increase *** and the insight’s and hearts be obscured
Then, the omission of remembrance is the best of all *** and the sun of the SELF has no setting
And; for the limitation of the understanding of many people, they think this Qasida is to abandon remembrance. But, actually, it is an act of politeness in the presence (Hadra) of Allah. And the omission of remembrance in the status of seeing, as is opened for the one in this level of seeing (Mushahada), as we explained, the door of praising (Hamd), then praising of praising (Hamd-el-Hamd), then he/she be ascended to lower thankfulness (Shukr) which is the thankfulness for more. After it the Thankfulness of Thankfulness (Shuk-e-sh-shukr). And; there is no limit to this level. And it is impossible that the servant becomes free, as long as he/she is a created being. So that he/she becomes servant and continues in that. And; no one deserves the word servant, in its true meaning, other than the Messenger of Allah (P.P.B.U.H.). For that, the Lord (Glorified and Exalted) has described him by this name (Servant) in the most honourable positions. That is, He (Glorified and Exalted) has said: (LIMITLESS in His glory is He who transported His servant … etc.) (Al-Isra:1) and has not said (transported His Beloved), neither (His Prophet). And; Allah (Blessed and Exalted) said: (Yet [thus it is] that whenever a servant of God stands up in prayer to Him, they [who are bent on denying the truth] would gladly overwhelm him with their crowds) (Al-Jinn:19). And He (exalted) said: (Say [O Prophet]: “If the Most Gracious [truly] had a son, I was the first to worship him) (Az-Zukhruf:81). And says in else than him from Human and jinn: (And [tell them that] I have not created the invisible beings and men to any end other than that they may [know and] worship Me) (Az-Zariyat:56). And; He did not say (To work) as yet (worship) is work. As well He (Exalted) said: (And say [unto them, O Prophet]: "Act! And God will behold your deeds, and [so will] His Apostle) (At-Tauba:105).
In the verse of ) (Az-Zariyat:56), above, reading in Arabic: (Wama khalaqtu aljinna waalinsa illa liyaAAbudooni), that last word (liyaAAbudooni) comes with a light stress on the (i). If it were an extended vowel (iiii) then it would have been obligatory that all deeds are worship. So, as the (i) comes with light stress, that means what is wanted from the Human and the Jinn is to be servants and it is not allowable for them to exit slavery in any of its five types, which are: Servant of Self (Abd-eth-that), Servant of Description (Abdel-Wasf), Servant of Mind (Abdel-Fahm), Servant of Illusion (Abdel-Wahm) and Servant of Dirham (Money) (Abde-ed-Dirham). And; if the deed of any worker in any of the levels the Holy Book and the Sunnah, that will not be worship, whether the worker is a Messenger, a Prophet or a Friend of Allah. For instance, the ordinary people are addressed by executing the Shari’a (Body Deeds) instructions. And if they perfect it they ascend to the Faith levels. And if they (further) perfect the Faith level, they ascend to Perfection (Ihsan) levels.
And the door to all that is the Remembrance (Zikr), which has been chosen by the Sufi Masters. And that begins first by the Tongue, as we have mentioned. Then by the Heart, then by the Soul, then by All the Body. And; when he/she reaches this last level, he/she becomes from the people of seeing “Ahl-l Mushahda”. i.e. He/she is in the presence (Hadra) of Allah all the time. Because the remembrance is praising of the worshipped, and the remembrance is not permissible in status of Seeing. As Allah (Exalted) said: (Lo! those who are with thy Lord are not too proud to do Him service, but they praise Him and adore Him) (Al-A'raf:206). And this is the level that at which the door for praising is opened in the praising position onto the Praising for the obligation of the praising necessities, by the Praising prerequisites, because the one reaching there finds his/her desire. That is for the human is poor for Allah till he/she reaches this level, as Allah (Exalted) said: (O mankind! Ye are the poor to Allah) (Fatir:15). He said (to Allah) and not (For Allah). Then after, he/she continues in Praising till it is opened to him/her the door to the Thanking, known as the Excess Thanking, clear in His (Exalted) saying, as already mentioned: (If you are grateful [to Me], I shall most certainly give you more and more) (Ibrahim:7). And he/she ben then given the balance of truths with authority of ordinance in that, by the permission of his creator, based on His (Exalted) saying: (Say: O Allah! Owner of Sovereignty! Thou givest sovereignty unto whom Thou wilt, and Thou withdrawest sovereignty from whom Thou wilt. Thou glory whom Thou wilt, and Thou humiliated whom Thou wilt. In Thy hand is the good. Lo! Thou art Able to do all things ( (Al-Imran:26). Allah (Exalted) gives glory by granting sovereignty and humiliation by depriving sovereignty. A sayer of the Sufi said:
(Arabic):
Wa shakiruha yahtaju shukran li shukriha *** kathalika shukru-sh shukri yahtaju-li-sh shukri
(Translation):
And; its thankful needs thanking for being made thankful *** also, thankfulness of the thankfulness needs thanking
Whatsoever, the servitude never drops from any being whether human or jinn. And whoever claims he/she is free and has not reached the stage of being freed - which will be discussed in the chapter of travelling to Allah – he/she is then pretending, false and liaer, as they said:
(Arabic):
Yatamanna-ez zamanu mahdha muhalin *** an tara muglatahu talaata hurrin
(Translation):
Time wishes a purely impossible *** that its eyes the appearance of a free one
And also said about this stage, by its people:
Tasttartu an dahri bi dhilli shuhudihi *** faterffi yara dahri wa laysa yarani
Wa lo saal-l ayyama anniyya ma darat *** wa aina makani ma darayna makani
(Translation):
I hid from my time with the shadow of my seeing *** so my eye sees my time and my time does see me
And if it asks the days about me, they do not know *** and where is my location, they do not know my location
The ultimate that the Leaders (A.B.P.W.T.) wish to have is one becomes a servant. That is, how it comes to be right of the beings to be free or they join Allah in His ordinances. And this is the Messenger of Allah and His Complete Servant and His Lover (P.P.B.U.H.), been ordered by Allah (Exalted) to worshipping till death comes over him. He (Exalted Sayer): (And serve thy Lord till the sure cometh unto thee) (Al-Hijr:99). And the sure here is death. And He says also: (So when thou art relieved, still toil) (Ash-Sharh:7) (And turn with love to your Lord) (Ash-Sharh:8). Toil here means tiredness due to worshipping through the night. As well He (Exalted) says: (nd some part of the night awake for it, a largess for thee. It may be that thy Lord will raise thee to a praised estate) (Al-Isra:79). So, how can the Messenger (P.P.B.U.H.) be asked to worship and those other than him be exempted from doing it. That is so strange and we have never heard of this in the case of our fathers of old. (Indeed, [by this you have brought forth something monstrous) (Maryam:89). (Whereat the heavens might well-nigh be rent into fragments, and the earth be split asunder, and the mountains fall down in ruins) (Maryam:90). So, Learn a lesson, then, O you who are endowed with insight. And here to follow is definition of the types of servants:
• First: The Servants of the Self (That) (of Allah): These are the great Leaders: The Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.), the Messengers with firmness of heart (ulu-l azm), the Right-guided Caliphs, the Companions and the Friends of Allah (Awliya).
• Second: The Servants of Description: These are servants who have not reached the above level, as he (P.P.B.U.H.) said: (Sleep of the learned is better than the worship of the ignorant). He means by the learned here all of the first level. As he also means by the ignorant that who does not reach by his worship the level of being Servant of the Self (That).
Accordingly, the servants’ levels are five:
1- Servants of the Self (That): The Messengers and Prophets
2- The Servants of Description: The Friends of Allah (Awlyia)
3- The Servants of Mind: The learned in the outer-knowledge
4- The Servants of Illusion: Philosophers
5- The Servants of Dirham (Money): The ordinary people
How come that one be free. And; the ordinary people have followed the speech of the Prophet (P.P.B.U.H.); and the Special have followed his (P.P.B.U.H.) deeds and imitate them; and the Special of the Special has imitated his (P.P.B.U.H.) morals; and the Special of the Special of the Special are his (P.P.B.U.H.) mandatories. And; in any case there is no goodness, but through following hi (P.P.B.U.H.) way. As it is said:
(Arabic):
Sa’adatuna mashrootatun bi-t-tiba’aihi *** wa hal yathbut-l bunyanu illa ala Ossi
(Translation):
Our happiness is subject to following him *** should the building be firm except on the foundation
Duaa:
Oh Allah, for sake of the secret between You and him and for the sake of Your love to him and his love to You, make us from the people of Ihsan (perfection), and make him pleased with us and our Tariqa people. And, prepare, O Allah, us receiving from him and taking from him (P.P.B.U.H.). We are sure that by his content is achieved Your content; and in obedience to him is achieved obedience to You. As You have said, your speech is certainty, in Your Wisdom Book: (Whoever pays heed unto the Messenger pays heed unto Allah thereby; and as for those who turn away - We have not sent thee to be their keeper) (Al Nisa:80). And; we are truly believing that following him is a living for us and happiness for us in both Lives, for your honourable saying: (O you who have attained to faith! Respond to the call of Allah and the Messenger whenever he calls you unto that which will give you life) (Al Anfal:24). O Allah, then, make us worthy to your response and happiness. And; Peace and Prayer of Allah be upon sayidina Mohamed and His family (wa salla-llah ala sayidina Mohamed’in wa aalihi wa sallam).
