Sharab al waslQasida No.63(1) In the book of Allah I found a light in which each sign hides great mystery. The virtuous (walis) advance spiritually according to a well-defined system: Zikr with the tongue, then the heart, the soul and then the entire body (Istilam). The door to the Hamd (grateful) station will then open, followed by hamd el Hamd (grateful to be grateful), Shokr (thankful), and finally the various degrees “shokr”Once he has reached a certain station in his spiritual quest, the murid will suddenly feel blocked, confined, like a civil servant who has spent too much time in a position he had previously coveted; but which at present seems too small for him. This state is made more untenable by the fact that the civil servant in question, or in our case the murid, can actually see the higher station and his heart is burning with the desire to reach it, but alas he has no choice but to patiently bide his time. This station which he so ardently desires is to him like a burning fire. This state of languor is called the state of "I see a fire." This is the state in which Sayyidina Moussa once found himself. When he saw the fire, he said to his family: "Stay here! I see a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch, or find at the fire some guidance "(Taha-10)(Mawlana has used Sayyidina Moussa’s example because it represented a goal to which Sayyidina Moussa aspired and which, from afar, burned like a fire but within it he knew he would find guidance.Once the murid reaches the next stage he has so much coveted and which, seen from below, was to him like a fire; the burning flame will become a bright light in which he will bask happily. This light within the fire is the guidance Sayyidina Moussa was looking for and the light Mawlana Sidi Fakhreddin had found. The “book of Allah” that is mentioned here is not the Quran. It is everything of divine inspiration that was ever written or taught since the dawn of time and till the day of Judgement. The human brain is not equipped to understand these matters. It is the heart that can.The “signs” mentioned by Mawlana could be lessons learned from the Quran: Sayyidina Issa is a sign, Al-Aziz is a sign, the sign could be a word or a saint. The following verses from Surat al-Rum are examples of said signs:20.And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then, suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout the earth].21. And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.22. And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.23. And of His signs is your sleep by night and day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen..24. And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightening [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that are signs for a people who use reason.25. And of His signs is that the heaven and earth remain by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth.Khaled Farid, Montreal
